Siberian Nutrition...

The choice of what to feed your Siberian is a very personal decision. But it is a decision that will have a huge impact on your cat/kitten's health and well being throughout the course of their life.  With an understanding of how a cat’s digestive system is set up, you will be able to make a wise choice for your companion, who may live 18 years or more. Of course cats are different from us, but how are their food needs different?  Here is a comparison:

  • People are omnivores, eating and digesting meat, grains, fruits and vegetables.

  • Cats are obligate carnivores, naturally consuming and digesting small prey, bones and all.  They are not designed to consume grains, cereal, starches, fruits, berries or anything else not originating from another animal.

Here at Keuka Ridge Siberians I feed my cats a completely raw diet of premium, human grade meats and probiotics. I often joke that my cats eat better than me. But it's true! Originally when I first imported my Siberians I fed them a high quality, grain-free kibble and canned wet food. I wasn't happy with the results because Cooper was quickly getting fat and the wet food seemed to cause random bouts of runny stools. I had been researching the health benefits of a raw diet and decided to go for it. And my cats are forever grateful because they love it!

Within 4 days of switching I could already tell a huge difference in the softness of their coats. Cooper is now a lean, mean, stud muffin machine, and the girls think he's sexy! My veterinarian is also extremely happy with the results because they feel he's optimum weight now and not at risk of diabetes anymore.

Some of the additional benefits of feeding a raw diet:

  • Improved digestion

  • Reduced stool odor and volume

  • Healthy coat with less shedding. Therefore fewer hairballs

  • Increased energy

  • Natural weight control

  • Better dental health

  • Better urinary health

I encourage you to consider continuing your Keuka Ridge Siberian kitten on a raw diet and I will gladly support you and help to guide you along the way.  A wonderful source for knowledge and support is the Facebook group CRAP (Completely Raw and Proud)
